Arts & Crafts Parade Angela has made fliers to hand out. Everyone is welcome to walk/ride with the group. Those walking with PTO are encouraged to wear a JES shirt, if possible. Trunk or Treat Angela will make a sign-up for trunks in the elementary office. She will also make coupons for a free cotton candy to distribute to JES students. It was decided to make signs/have cones to block the entrance to the back parking lot at JES so that only the vehicles participating in Trunk or Treat are allowed into the area. Angela will email teachers, asking for volunteers for cake walk goodies. There will be games such as ring toss, pumpkin bowling, and balloon darts available for the kids. It was also decided to have concessions be priced at $1, with coffee and hot chocolate priced at .50 cents. Dinner with Santa Angela will send a letter to various groups, asking if they would like to perform for 20-minute sessions during the event. Letters will be sent to a local Bellringers group, the Rockin’ Hawks, Christian Strings, Linn County Dance, and to the Elementary and High School bands. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Officers for the Jayhawk Elementary PTO met on Tuesday, September 18. Overall, the event seemed to be a great success, and everyone had fun. PTO did discuss a couple of small concerns, and will establish more rules for next year. People would have liked to have more dads actively help with the event. Otherwise, it was positive reviews. Teacher Appreciation Week Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-11. Discussion was held over goody days and special tokens of appreciation. Food days will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. These will include salsa, dips and chips; a breakfast/yogurt bar; and a finger-food day. Tuesday and Thursday will include one day for supply day, and another day will have a small gift delivered to the teachers. It was also suggested to pass out candy bars for the district bus drivers. Field Day After further discussion, it was decided that PTO would not be able to adequately provide a successful field day. There will be a better possibility to have one next year, with more planning. In lieu of a Field Day, PTO will provide popcorn and soda for the students on the last day of school. In addition, each class will receive water balloons courtesy of the PTO. There will need to be volunteers to help with this. Other Business Discussion was had about posting a poll to Facebook in order to get parents’ input about events hosted by PTO this past year, as well as suggestions for other things they would like to see. There will also be two people at the door to make line go faster, and the dance may possible start at 7 p.m. next year. Mother/Son Kickball The Mother/Son Kickball will be on Friday, April 20, at the ballfields. Games will start at 6 p.m. Cost will be $5 per mom/aunt/grandmother.
